" Ambrosia is a tiny gem of a bakery located in the same stretch of shops along 151 in Nellysford that houses the Blue Ridge Pig and the nearby Basic Necessities gourmet store and restaurant.


The bakery features breads, breakfast pastries (such as giant cinnamon rolls - how did we resist these?), cakes and tempting sweets all for a couple of dollars each.  Ambrosia also offers wraps, sandwiches, salads, soups and quiche priced around $6 to $8.  Mediterranean and Middle Eastern ingredients such as tzatziki, feta, hummus, baba ghanouj and tabouli tend to play a significant role in the inspired menu selections.

While we can't speak to the deli offerings (we were stuffed from lunch next door at BRP, not to mention a morning of snacking at the Nelson County Farmers Market), we can weigh-in on the high-quality desserts...Chocolate chip cookies are massive with large chunks of chips and retain just the right amount chewiness.  Make sure you have milk on-hand to enjoy these treats!  Similarly, the raspberry-chocolate bars are dense and bursting with berry flavor.  In contrast to the aforementioned bold tastes, the Italian Cream Cake is a sublime, moist marvel due in-part to the buttermilk and coconut flakes, and incorporates pecans and cream cheese icing.

The space is very small, with just a couple of tables that patrons pass by in order to get to the order counter at the back of the store.  Ambrosia is well-lit, clean and inviting, and the staff is extremely friendly and engaging.

For those spending the day/weekend exploring Nelson County, you must add Ambrosia to your list of "must-visit" places.

I just wanted to say thank you SO much for the amazing cupcakes you
